the perfect picture

XOXO

i felt a raindrop trickle down my worn out cap then slowly drip onto my earlobe, its freezing molecules sending chills down every bone in my body. the numbness i felt now emasculated any attempt i made to move a single sinew, even if it was to engender some sort of signal to warm my shivering body.

the wind blew fiercely in my face as if it was in a battle to prove its agility to humankind on behalf of mother nature; the supple sounds it provoked in collision with the neigbourhood bricks of buildings and lackadaisical motor vehicles were antagonistic unlike those that run through the rusticity.

impossible, i thought, as i watched more droplets of rain fall upon the scattered autumn leaves on the pavement. the 3 o'clock sun shone brightly from the west and the figure of my demure shadow largely visible on the other side. i glanced at peppy who appeared completely apathetic of my befuddlement towards the weather, still adulated by the bushes of dirt he had just pissed on.

the thought of lifting up his tangled leash, of which was in potential danger of suffering stains of lubricant, was a great fraught on its own but i eventually managed to pull the sleeves of my oversized jumper so that it covered my icy fingertips and turned around.

the frame of view i so suddenly came to see left me completely awestruck. each breath i took was stolen from me as my feet stood rooted to the ground; my enitre self paused in captivation. rays of sunlight protruded through the yellow and red leaves of the dominating tree as tiny rain drops fluttered weightless from the sky, in a form of micro snow flakes barely touching the earth, leaves falling in slow-motion, sanguine and fearless, like in a Disney movie.

a gush of thoughts ran through all corners of my dusty mind; a wave of contrition for my act of stupidity, for my selfishness, for my egocentric despondence. a revelation dawned upon me. i needed to adjust things, to restore rightness.

i lifted my arms and poised my fingers into shapes of opposite collumns, and clicked.

i had taken the perfect picture and stored it in my heart.

it lasted a whole 5 seconds and then it disappeared as quickly as it arrived, the psuedo-like image perished into thin air. yet i smile. i caught a glimpse of that perfect picture. as the clouds procured its remonstrant self, i tugged on peppy's collar and began my first steps back to the house, of which have obtained a somewhat jovial spring to them. because i knew what would follow this enigmatic act of nature, something that needn't the brains of david attenborough to figure out.

i knew that a rainbow would soon form.

to my mum,
thank you. i love you with all my heart and soul.

XOXO
